Hydrino - New Energy Source Or 'Fuel's Paradise'?

It seems too good to be true: a new source of near-limitless power that costs virtually nothing, uses tiny amounts of water as its fuel and produces next to no waste. If that does not sound radical enough, how about this: the principle behind the source turns modern physics on its head.

Randell Mills, a Harvard University medic who also studied electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, claims to have built a prototype power source that generates up to 1,000 times more heat than conventional fuel. Independent scientists claim to have verified the experiments and Dr. Mills says that his company, Blacklight Power, has tens of millions of dollars in investment lined up to bring the idea to market. And he claims to be just months away from unveiling his creation.

The problem is that according to the rules of quantum mechanics, the physics that governs the behaviour of atoms, the idea is theoretically impossible. "Physicists are quite conservative. It's not easy to convince them to change a theory that is accepted for 50 to 60 years. I don't think [Mills's] theory should be supported," said Jan Naudts, a theoretical physicist at the University of Antwerp.

What has much of the physics world up in arms is Dr. Mills's claim that he has produced a new form of hydrogen, the simplest of all the atoms, with just a single proton circled by one electron. In his "hydrino", the electron sits a little closer to the proton than normal, and the formation of the new atoms from traditional hydrogen releases huge amounts of energy.

This is scientific heresy. According to quantum mechanics, electrons can only exist in an atom in strictly defined orbits, and the shortest distance allowed between the proton and electron in hydrogen is fixed. The two particles are simply not allowed to get any closer.

Yeah - let's hope he wins thru for the sake of the environment and our energy needs

Reading some of his papers raises some questions. My first question would be why we don't find his energy depleted hydrogen atoms in nature. Why don't a few already exist here and there? Secondly, what are the waste products of his generator? His papers talk about the formation of "novel hydrates". Are these toxic? I have only take a glance at one paper, mind you.

Another question that comes to mind is the impact of his depleted energy hydrogen atoms in the environment. They seemingly no longer form bonds with each other to form molecular hydrogen. Will they also no longer form bonds with oxygen to form water? And if they do, once the atoms are in this new lower energy state, they don't seem to be usable in the process again. Once the energy has been extracted from the electon orbit, it is gone.

Consider for a moment the billions of gallons of fuel consumed to generate power. At a global scale, are we going to need to use up billions of gallons of water per hour? If the hydrogen atoms will no longer form a bond with oxygen, will we deplete our water supply? If they can combine with oxygen, will the remaining water become, over time, diluted with lower energy H2O that can not be used again to generate the power because the hydrogen atom is already a "low energy" atom that has had it's energy extracted?

In other words, I am not convinced there is a free lunch here and when you look at the scale of power generation on a global scale, it could impact our water supply over a century or two.

We don't find hydrinos in nature normaly as a catalyst is needed. However, I saw once that some unexplained spectral lines in the light from interstellar gas seems to correspond to hydrino lines - so they may exist in space, nature in the broadest sense. As for the depleted atoms - I also recall the answer being that they are ejected into the atmosphere and sometimes or other absorb a photon tot return to the normal hyrogen state. They may then re-combine with oxygen to get back the water - so the net effect is that energy is pumped from the alrady globally warmed earth to do work in the carnot engine sense of the word. Not a bad effect, as it might cool down global warming. Finally, the hydrino hydride compounds are supposed to have several applications - when did you ever worry about all the hydrogen locked up in plastics, sugars, wooden furniture etc? That's world-wide like crazy and things haven't collpased. No, I'm less a doomsday nay-sayer for these small scale power efforts than I am for the real danger of nuclear power and its vile wastes. Same goes for other filthy fossil fuels or even the megalomaniac scale of Tokamak ' hot' fusion power. Of course the hot fusion and oild mafia would love to torpedo this de-centralised system. You'r not in either industry by any chance?

I truly believe this is our salvation from the power hungry oil corporations. Go Dr Mills!!

You really need to read the entire writings on the process before commenting on something you have "glanced" at.
