Journalists tell of US Falluja killings

Thursday 17 March 2005, 13:41 Makka Time, 10:41 GMT

Journalists accuse US soldiers of targeting children

All is quiet in Falluja, or at least that is how it seems, given that the mainstream media has largely forgotten about the Iraqi city. But independent journalists are risking life and limb to bring out a very different story.

The picture they are painting is of US soldiers killing whole families, including children, attacks on hospitals and doctors, the use of napalm-like weapons and sections of the city destroyed.

One of the few reporters who has reached Falluja is American Dahr Jamail of the Inter Press Service. He interviewed a doctor who had filmed the testimony of a 16-year-old girl.

"She stayed for three days with the bodies of her family who were killed in their home. When the soldiers entered she was in her home with her father, mother, 12 year-old brother and two sisters.

She watched the soldiers enter and shoot her mother and father directly, without saying anything. They beat her two sisters, then shot them in the head. After this her brother was enraged and ran at the soldiers while shouting at them, so they shot him dead," Jamail relates.

I personally have a healthy skeptism about "news" reports but I do know that our Adminstration has been feeding the nation and the world a health dose of its own propgranda. The biggest of which was the whole WMD and now Freedam line of BS. The latest proof of the deception comes from a BBC report on March 17, 2005 by reporter Greg Palast for Newsnight. Using the freedom of information act they obtained copies of two plans to replace Saddam, privatize the Oil resources, and break the back of Opec. Both plans one forested by Big Oil and the other by Neo Cons. These plans were drawn up prior to 9/11 just a few weeks after bush took office. So it seems true that US has lost 1520 killed 10,284 wounded and $300 billions for Oil. That is sure a far cry from WMD and Freedom.

While the adminstartion calls it advocay or spin. It is just one a dramatic series of lies this adminstration has been feeding and unfortunately many have swallowed.

Given the reported deaths of 108 prisioners while in custody and torture etc. One can't immediately discount any report they should all be investigated.

Well as a long time listener of NPR all I can say is thank you NPR.

The Bush adminstration are so trying to control the media they are paying in one case $250,000 to a black radio host to "sell" his no child left behind act. Another trick is call VNR where they produce there their own "news" pieces strip off the source and send to local news stations to run them. They look like local and indpedent produced news stories but they are 100% propoganda

The sadness of this is that it could be true. It may be totally false, but I cannot reject all or parts of it as being impossible for our country to condone or allow, as I would like to be able to do.

If all was sunshine and roses there in Fallujah, then the international press would be allowed in.

If the US authorities were interested in getting the truth out there, then the international press would be INVITED in.

FIRST OF ALL - THE EDITOR! SPELLED "propoganda" WRONG!!!! HOW ARE WE TO "TRUST" AN EDITOR WHO CANNOT EVEN SPELL!!!! IT'S "PROPAGANDA!!!" MISTER!!!

SECONDLY, ONE COMMENT POSTED BROUGHT UP SITES LIKE "CNN" AND "FOXNEWS" WHICH ARE FULL OF "FALSE-TRUTHS" AND "OUTRIGHT LIES!" I DON'T SEE YOU EVER! 'ATTACKING' THEM.

THE "TRUTH" IS...THAT MANY, MANY INNOCENT IRAQIS HAVE BEEN 'TORTURED' AND KILLED -- INCLUDING WOMEN AND CHILDREN -- BY YOUR 'god' BUSH AND AMERICAN TROOPS ON HIS 'ORDERS' (AND IT IS VERY, VERY CLEAR FROM YOUR 'LOYAL' DEFENSE - THAT YOU DO -- INDEED! 'WORSHIP" HIM!)

LASTLY, IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU TO 'KNOW' -- BEING THAT YOU ARE VERY, VERY LACKING IN 'GENERAL' KNOWLEDGE, THAT "AL-JAZERRA" IS ACTUALLY "AMERICAN" BACKED, OWNED AND RUN. (IF YOU LOOKED VERY CAREFULLY AT THIS SITE AND ALL IT'S NEWS STORIES -- YOU WOULD 'SEE' THAT IT HAS A VERY, VERY "BROAD" WORLD VIEW...AND YOU WOULD 'SEE' HOW IGNORANT YOUR CLAIM OF 'PROPAGANDA' REALLY IS...) WHY DON'T YOU HAVE A REPORTER GO OVER AND ASK THE IRAQI PEOPLE THEMSELVES ABOUT THESE KILLINGS? I'LL BET 'ANYTHING' MANY WILL "FULLY" BACK THIS STORY -- AND WITH 'EVIDENCE!!"

YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT AS "OBJECTIVE" AS YOU LIKE TO BILL YOUR SITE AS BEING -- AND YOU ARE NOT! THE LEAST BIT INTERESTED IN THE "TRUTH" -- OR BEING DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MAINSTREAM "SO-CALLED" NEWS SITES!~

I think anything is possible. I feel sure that

we infiltrate by disguising ourselves as terrorists, and that they in turn, at times, have disguised themselves as one of us, and done terrible things to create bad press about us.

The United States administration has only itself to blame if stories such as these come out of Iraq - be they true or false or half true. The fact is we cannot trust what the US tells us because they have subverted investigative journalism methodically and deliberately. We didn't believe the news published by the Soviet Union because it was manipulated and we don't believe the news put out by the USA (including many so called independent press sources) because it too is manipulated. The only WMDs around are weapons of mass deception.

I am a U.S. Marine who spent 2 and a half months in Fallujah, and I was there for Operation Al Fajr. This was the operation that involved the taking of the city and the beginning phases of it's rebuilding. I can PERSONALLY say that these stories are untrue. People in Fallujah were given warnings to leave the city. Some stayed and were allowed to be out for a few hours in the morning every day. People were not unfairly targeted. We gave specific instructions to the citizens and the consequences if they did not follow them: they would be considered a fighter/insurgent and then be dealt with accordingly. We opted for them to surrender first and when they began shooting we engaged as well. Hospital staff were not threatened and were safeguarded. Its sad that someone would say that, especially someone who has probably not been there and is hearing some story, from someone, who heard it from someone else, etc. I could talk all day about this but some people are just going to remain ignorant.

A U.S. Marine
