Air France Airbus Jets Have Above-Average Crash Rate

Secret aviation industry calculations have raised uncomfortable questions for Air France: Airbus aircraft belonging to the French carrier have an above-average rate of crashes. An internal report obtained by German news magazine Spiegel criticizes the company's safety culture.

The crash of Air France flight 447 in the Atlantic Ocean on June 1 claimed 288 lives and caused a public relations disaster for the French airline. Now new information is raising disturbing questions about the airline's safety record.

Spiegel has learned of secret aviation industry calculations which conclude that Air France's Airbus fleet has an aircraft loss rate of 1.26 per 1 million flights, That is four times higher than other airlines' average (0.3 losses per million flights).

Three Air France Airbus jets have crashed since 1988. A fourth Airbus jet belonging to Air France's later subsidiary Air Inter also crashed.

The new figures coincide with a debate in France about whether the crash of the Airbus A330, flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in which all 288 people aboard were killed, resulted in part from reckless behavior by the pilots.

Um, That's Only TWO, Actually

As noted, the fourth accident cited was an aircraft belonging to Air Inter, which was a separate, privately-owned airline, fully independent of state-owned Air France.

One other crash was a Concorde. That accident was due to debris on the runway. Blame the preceding aircraft to take off or the runway sweepers, but it just ain't fair to charge that to Air France.
Reckless Pilots???

Please provide details!!!

The evidence so far shows the aircraft was 3 nautical miles west of its flight route: this means it was trying to avoid a set of storm clusters.

If you want details, please go to the PPruNe or Eurocockpit websites.

"Reckless" is a very daring term to choose.

What he said at annual general meeting was exactly: "We have been caught out on safety."

yemenia airbus 310 crash

i was happy to read the comment about concerns of safety in airbus in general. however, regarding the airbus 310 that crashed in comoros there is strong indication that the plane was hit by a french navy rocket , only small pieces of plane found as far as tanzania and kenya coast dead bodies, and chairs of the aircraft, in addition french authorities immediately evacuated the only survivor 14 years girl by french military aircraft without any investigation though the girl while in hospital said i just found myself in the sea . Therefore , we ask french authorities and honest journalists to investigate this matter and bring the truth out / ghaleb ghaibb@yahoo.com
